Jay Cowen, MD
Dr. Cowen serves as the President of The Intensivist Group (TIG), a company he founded in 2001 that is dedicated to assisting hospitals nationwide to implement intensivist-led ICU programs in an effort to drive improved patient outcomes and more efficient use of ICU resources. He currently also serves as the director of critical care medicine at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Dr. Cowen has extensive telemedicine experience having served as medical director of the eICU Connection for Provena Health, a six hospital health system in North and Central Illinois.
Prior to founding TIG, Dr. Cowen started his career as the ICU medical director at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA.
Dr. Cowen received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University where he served as a chief resident, a surgical Critical Care fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia, and a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cowen is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Cowen has received the Presidents Citation from the Society of Critical Care Medicine on numerous occasions and is a member the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He is well published on the topic of quality management in critical care medicine.
