Stephen Matchett, MD
Steve Matchett, MD brings strong expertise in building and running on-site critical care units as well as extensive knowledge in the burgeoning field of telemedicine. He serves as the company’s lead consultant as well as oversees clinical operations for its Eastern region, including quality initiatives and outcomes measurement. Dr. Matchett, who joined The Intensivist Group (TIG) in 2007, is also medical director of the intensive care unit at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pennsylvania.
Since joining The Intensivist Group, Dr. Matchett has focused on developing and standardizing protocols and clinical practices across ICUs managed by TIG at major community health networks, including Mercy hospitals in the Philadelphia area and Provena hospitals in Illinois.
Prior to joining The Intensivist Group, Dr. Matchett was medical director of telemedicine services and chief of the division of critical care medicine at Lehigh Valley Hospital. In that position, Dr. Matchett held an endowed chair in critical care medicine at Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. His responsibilities also included chief of the critical care division and ICU director. Previously he served as medical director at Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital, a long-term acute-care hospital.
Dr. Matchett attended University of Rochester School of Medicine and completed his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York, where he served as chief resident. He then completed a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at Yale University, where he also was a guest scholar in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program.
Dr. Matchett is board-certified in internal and critical care medicine. In 2008, he received a Presidential Citation by the Society of Critical Care Medicine for his contributions to improving ICU quality of care.
Dr. Matchett is a member of the American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, and Society of Critical Care Medicine. He also is a member of the American Telemedicine Association, where he serves on a working group focused on critical care telemedicine.
